Welcome Back To School Night

Suburu 5th Grade

Dear Parents,

We would like to extend a very warm welcome to you and your child to the new school year.  We’re looking forward to working with your child as we explore many new and exciting areas of study.  It is our belief that by informing the parents as well as the students about our academic policies, we can work together to insure your child’s success in fifth grade.  Included in this packet is a list of important information that should be read over carefully and discussed with your child.

Sincerely,

Craig Bailey

District Policies

Student Valet Program: Students usually miss Bellworks.District Wellness Policy:  The Lakeside Union School District has implemented a Wellness Policy due to the growing movement in California to promote healthier habits.  Suburu will be making an active effort to follow the guidelines of this policy.  This school year Suburu will implement the following procedures to improve healthier habits for our students.

Birthdays: Teachers will celebrate student birthdays one day each month.  The specific date will be decided by your child’s teacher.  During this day please limit cupcakes, candy, etc.  Parents can focus on healthier snacks, book marks, stickers, etc.

Classroom Parties: Please try to focus on healthier snacks

Wanted: 5th Grade Helpers.

Every year we are asked how parents can contribute to the classroom.  Our first answer would be to take an active part in checking your child’s homework and making sure your child is reading every evening.  For example, look over math homework as time permits, edit writing and/or listen to stories read aloud and ask frequent questions.

Some parents are able to do more by contributing their time to the classroom and/or by making donations.  We need parents who can help out by checking off homework, grading papers, or filing in the classroom an hour per week or who could take a set of papers home to grade each week.  Please sign up on the “Helping Hands” page in the Back to School Night packet.  We also need one parent per Quarter to plan and bring in treats for our quarterly AR parties.  The sign-up sheet is in the back of the room.

There will be other projects or events in which we will need help and/or donations throughout the year.  We will notify parents of these through the class newsletter.  Thank you for your support in and out of the classroom!
