Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader (AR) is a motivational reading program that we have here at Suburu School.  It helps students get interested in reading, as well as, help build their comprehension skills.

This is how it works:

1. Students are tested to find their ZPD (Zone of Proximal Development) or reading level.  Then, I will give each individual student a point goal based on their ZPD and class observation for them to try to meet each quarter.

2. Students check out books from the library at their level and read them at school and home.  I encourage them to read books at least three times.

3. When the student is ready, they may take a quiz on the computer to earn points.

4. If students meet their point goals, they will receive an award.  If students receive their point goals with 85% comprehension correct, they will receive an additional award.
