Accelerated Reader

How it works:

Step 1: every quarter each student will take the AR STAR test to determine their reading level(ZPD).

Step 2: I will assign a point goal for each student. Their goal will depend on what their reading level is and what I believe they are capable of doing. I make sure goals are set to be easily obtainable for each student, as long as they read their library books at their level and take their quizzes each week. Goals will be adjusted each quarter.

Step 3: They will check out books from the school library at their level. They will be allowed to have two books from the library out at a time. I encourage students to take one book home and keep one book at school.

Step 4: After reading the books thoroughly, they will take AR quizzes on the computer. They will earn points depending on how they score on the quiz. (Ex. If the book is worth 1 point and they get 100%, they will recieve 1 point.). I expect students to take 2 quizzes a week.

*At the end of the quarter students will recieve an AR grade to be included in their reading grade. It will include a combination of their point goal percentage and their accuracy percentage.

AR Rewards

-If your child makes their point goal for the quarter they will get to participate in an AR party.

-If your child makes their point goal and has at least 85% accuracy, they will participate in the party and get a prize.
