California's Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program

Your student will be participating in the 4th and 7th Grade Writing Test component of the STAR program on March 4, 2008. Scores for this component are combined with students' scores on the multiple-choice component on the test to produce California English-Language test scores.

It is important that students do their best to increase the accuracy of the results. You are a vital partner in the testing process and can help by:

• making sure your child has plenty of rest on the nights before testing
• provide a good breakfast on testing days
• helping your child see the test as an opportunity to show what he/she has learned and encourage your child to do his/her best
• avoid scheduling appointments or activities that will take your child away from school during testing time
• be sure your child arrives to school on time
