STAR State Testing

(Parent Letter from Mr. McGrath) Your student will be participating in California's Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program from April 20 through May 1, 2009. All public schools in California participate in the STAR Program, which is designed to provide students, parents, teachers, and the community with information about student achievement.

All California students in grades 2nd-11th will be testing in reading, written expression (language), spelling, and mathematics as a part of the STAR Program. Additionally, students in 5th Grade will be administered a science and history-social science test.

The STAR Program consists of the California Standards Test (CST's). Students in 2nd-8th grades take the CST's, which will show how well students are achieving on contest standards established for all California students by the State Board of Education.

It is important that students do their best to increase the accuracy of the results. You are a vital partner in the testing process and can help by:

  • Make sure your child has plenty of rest on the nights before testing.
  • Provide a good breakfast on testing days.
  • Helping your child see the test as an opportunity to show what he/she has learned and encouraging your child to do his/her best.
  • Avoid scheduling appointments or activities that will take your child away from school during testing time.
  • Be sure your child arrives to school on time.

There will be no After-School classes/activities during STAR week.

A report of your student's results on the STAR test will be mailed to your home as soon as we receive them. Please watch for these reports to arrive late summer.

Sincerely,

Mike McGrath, Principal
