California’s Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR)

pencil: Dear Parents/Guardians:

Your student will be participating in California’s Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program from April 26th through May 3rd.  All public schools in California participate in the STAR Program, which is designed to provide students, parents, teachers, and the community with information about student achievement.

All California students in grades 2nd-11th will be testing in reading, written expression (language), spelling, and mathematics as a part of the STAR Program.  Additionally, students in 5th grade will be administered a science test, and students in 8th grade will be administered a science and history-social science test.

The STAR Program consists of the California Standards Tests (CST’s).  Students in 2nd-8th grades take the CST’s, which will show how well students are achieving on content standards established for all California students by the State Board of Education.

It is important that students do their best on these tests.  You are a vital partner in the testing process and can help by:

  • Making sure your child has plenty of rest on the nights before testing.
  • Provide a good breakfast on testing days.
  • Helping your child see the test as an opportunity to show what he/she has learned and encourage your child to do his/her best.
  • Avoid scheduling appointments or activities that will take your child away from school during testing time.
  • Be sure your child arrives to school on time.
  • There will be no After-School classes/activities during STAR week.

A report of your student’s results on the STAR tests will be mailed to your home as soon as we receive them.  Please watch for these reports to arrive late summer.
Sincerely,

Mike McGrath
Principal
