What is the School Site Council?

The Lakeside School Site Council meets once a month to discuss issues affecting our school. The School Site Council (SSC) oversees the development of the school's academic plan, monitor its achievements, and makes recommendations for necessary changes. Much of the academic programs and social activities involving you and your children are a direct result of this plan.

The basic principle underlying the establishment of the SSC is that those individuals who are most affected by the operation of their school should have a major role in the decisions regarding how their school functions. This involvement occurs through the development of the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA). This plan includes a budget which is reflective and supportive of the plan, monitoring of plan implementation and evalutation of the effectiveness of the plan.

Composed of the principal, teachers, other school personnel, and parents, the SSC provides a foundation for all of the major stakeholders of the school to come together to identify common goals and establish a SPSA. The SSC's success depends upon both the ability and the willingness of all those involved in the process to work together in a cooperative manner to develop an effective curricular and instructional program in which all students may attain higher levels of academic competence.

The annually developed SPSA is based on current student achievement data. Through the analysis of data and current instructional practices, goals are set along with a monitoring system.
