Note about assignments: All students write down their assignments in their planning books purchased here at school. Every Monday I write the homework on the board. It is there all week. This site serves as a reminder and resorce for parents.

Discussion topics and Standards this week: Review of Verb Tenses, Figurative Language, Capitalization, Setting.

PERIODS 1&2, 3&5, 6&7

LANGUAGE ARTS

SPELLING- Lesson #25. Pages 118-121(Green Book) Use each word in a sentence. Use the 6 verb tenses in sequence.

LANGUAGE- Dol-Due Wednesday. Know the rules of grammar! This is a sheet I will hand out Monday. Students rewrite 10 sentences on binder paper. Pay attention to the rules on the left side of each sentence. This will give you clues as to errors. Be careful. Each error is two points. We will be discussing these rules all year long and writing about them in our grammar tech manual. There's no mystery about grammar. Just like your times tables, you just have to know and study them. This is due Wednesday or before. Try to finish it in class.

We will read this in class, but I want you to read this at home too. Test Friday.

Remember to study for your test. The test is based on your vocabulary, information in your Selection Support, the story, and questions at the end of the story.

Selection Support Pages - 156-158. Most of this will be finished in class, but remember you are responsible for completing this if you do not finish it.

Cornell Notes-in class

AR-Read your library book every night. Remember that AR is 10% of your grade. When you finish a book be sure to take a test.

PROJECT-Book of Virtues- Perseverance Essay. This will be due Friday March 18 the week before Camp Keep. We will start this in Computer Lab this week. I want you to argue if you think if people are more or less honest today that say 50 years ago. For more information look at the Book of Virtue's handout I gave to you.

Oranges-an orange textbook

Limes-A Spelling workbook (a green book)

Potatoes-Selection Support Workbook (a brown book). A book that supports the orange textbook.

Supplies:paper, pencils, pens, red pen, and optional flash drive (memory stick).

Guitar

PERIOD 8- GUITAR/STUDY HALL

Guitar during lunch will begin 1/18/10. Students can bring their guitars (be sure to have a case) on Monday and Wednesday of each week. We will eat lunch in my class to save time.

Students can drop off their guitars in my class in the morning, but they must be taken home the same day. Thank you, Glen Ogden.

    Study Hall: All students must come prepared to study hall. You will need your homework or an AR book. This is a time to study and complete your homework not to talk.

    Guitar: Those of you who are taking lessons in guitar must have these items:
         Guitar and case
         Optional electronic tuner. You can purchase these at any music store for as little as $14.
          I will issue each of you a workbook and music to study. Try to practice at least three times a week. 10-20 minutes a night is fine. Turn the TV off. Live a little.

Welcome to a new school year at Lakeside. Remember, I am a part of all that I have read. When you look at common ingredients to success in this world, reading is singularly important, and in order to become a successful reader you must practice. To become a better ball player or to succeed in ballet, one must practice. Learn to turn off that TV or video game and discover the wonder literature has to offer.
Dear Parents,
I invite you to call or visit if you have any questions about the class. On the first day of school I will send home class information that I would like you to read and sign. These will be inside of your student's grammar tech manual, a folder containing information students will use all year. Key items to remember:

Weekly Progress Reports

I issue an academic progress report to every student every Friday. This will show each assignment and assigned grade for the subjects spelling, reading, language, and language. Ask your son or daughter to see this.
For reading classes I write the assignments and due dates for the whole week on the board every Monday. Students write this information in their homework notebooks on Monday morning.
