We've been working very hard to get ready for the Suburu Back to School Night. Suburu School would like to invite all of the parents, students and other family members to come and see our school during our Back to School Night. We have made a lot of changes on campus including the awesome multi-purpose building that has been used to meet our cafeteria and lunchroom needs. The teachers and students have worked very hard at preparing classrooms for the new school year. While visiting, our teachers and staff members would enjoy meeting and talking to you about your student's assignments and the progress he or she is making. All of our students are eager to show their projects and other classroom assignments that they have been working on. We hope to see you at the Suburu Back to School Night!

Gym Floor Fundraiser - Dinner and Reverse Drawing - Grand Prize $3000 - Every 25th ticket wins $100
In 1951, a gymnasium was built at Lakeside School at a cost of $285,000. So after 54 years of numerous school and community basketball games, physical education classes, graduations and community events the gymnasium floor is worn out and can no longer be restored. Today the high price of only a floor is at least $125,000 and state funding does not provide funds for this type of improvement.
Please join us in a fund raiser with the chance to win $3,000 by purchasing a reverse drawing ticket which includes dinner for two. For your lucky tickets please contact the Lakeside District Office at (661)831-3503, Debra Wilson at 834-4189, Nanci Castillo at 831-3503, or Andrea Dewar at 397-3416.
Saturday, October 15, 2005
Kern Ag Pavillion, 501 South Mt. Vernon Ave.
Social Hour - 5:30pm
Dinner - 6:30 to 8:00pm
Drawing begins at 7:30pm
$100.00 for two dinner tickets and one drawing; $20.00 for ea. additional dinner ticket. Adults ONLY!

In the mornings of Monday, April 25, through Friday, April 29, 2005, Lakeside Union School Districts' students in grades 2nd through 8th grades will be participating in California's Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) program and 1st grade students will be participating in the Terra Nova program. Lakeside Union School District is participating in these programs with all other schools in the state. The STAR program is designed to provide students, parents, teachers, and the community with student achievement information.
Although make-up days will be provided if necessary, your child should be on time and attend school on the testing days. It is important that students do their best to increase the accuracy of the results. You are a vital partner in the testing process and can help by:
- making sure your child has plenty of rest the nights before testing
- providing a good breakfast on testing days and possibly sending a nutritious snack for morning break
- helping your child see the test as an opportunity to show what she or he has learned and encourage your child to do his or her best
- not asking us to interrupt a class during testing

Dear Parents,
I have some very sad news to share with you. One of our fourth grade students at Suburu School, Brandon Creasey, died Friday night, November 26th. He was involved in a tragic traffic accident on Sunday, November 21st. Brandon is the son of Bonnie Creasey, one of our bus drivers. We are profoundly saddened by Brandon's death.
On Friday, December 3rd, we will have a Minimum Day in order to allow Bonnie's fellow bus drivers, and the Suburu / Lakeside staff to attend thefuneral service. Following are the Minimum Day dismissal times:
- Kindergarten through Fifth grade @ 1pm
We have shared this information and had discussions with all of our students, so that they would know what has happened. Counselors, teachers, and other suppport personnel have been, and will continue to be, available to students, teachers, and parents on an ongoing basis. Please call the school at 831-3503, if you need assistance.
As parents, you may want to talk to your children, too! The death of a student may affect a child in a variety of ways depending on the age of a child, how well the child knew Brandon, and the child's experience with grief.
When reacting to a death, a child may:
-
Be frightened
-
Be agitated and angry
-
Be sad and withdrawn
-
Try extra hard to be good
-
Appear not to be affected
-
Ask a lot of questions
-
Be thinking about it privately
We suggest you listen to your children. If they seem to need to talk, answer thier questions simply, honestly, and possibly over and over again.
Our thoughts are with the Creasey family.
