Curriculum
This year, your child will be learning a lot of new and exciting things. In Social Studies, we will learn about the missions and the California Gold Rush. We will learn about the early pioneers, such as John Sutter and Abel Stearns. We will learn about many other historical events as well. In Math, we will be conquering division. It is very important that students know their multiplication facts. We will also work on geometry, decimals, and statistics. In Science, we will learn about electricity. The kids will love our hands-on experiments. We will also cover biomes, rocks and minerals, the scientific method, and more. In Reading, we will cover one story a week from our text book. Along with those stories, we will learn about legends, fables, trickster tales, and fairy tales. We will be reading novels throughout the year. By the Great Horn Spoon, Number the Stars, James & the Giant Peach, and Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing are just a few. This year we will be doing a lot of writing, too. We will learn how to write narratives, summaries, response to literature essays, compare and contrast essays, problem-solution essays, and descriptive essays. My curriculum covers the required California State Standards.
